Calcium Aluminate Clinker or Fused calcium aluminate  is produced by burning the raw materials of high grade crude aluminous bauxite and limestone in arc-furnace kiln. Calcium aluminate clinker is mainly used in refining ladle to remove the sulfide impurities from steel liquid and keeping good fluidity of slag.

Calcium aluminate cement (CAC) is a type of hydraulic binder that has been in commercial existence since 1908. At that time a patent was granted for a manufacturing process by which bauxite and limestone were fused in a reverberatory furnace to formthe hydraulic mineral CaAl_2O_4. This mineral, monocalcium aluminate, is the principal reactive phase in all CACs. The annual production quantity of CAC is minor in comparison to portland cement (OPC). CAC and OPC are similar in that principally thy are both composed of hydraulic minerals. In CAC these minerals are calcium aluminates, and in OPC they are calcium silicates.
Calcium aluminate cements evolved from a drive to develop sulphate resistant cements.

Applications

Because of their relatively high cost, calcium aluminate cements are used in a number of restricted applications:

    * in construction concretes, rapid strength development is achieved, even at low temperatures.
    * in construction concretes, high chemical resistance is possible.
    * in refractory concretes, strength is maintained at high temperatures.
    * as a component in blended cement formulations, various properties such as ultra-rapid strength development and controlled expansion can be obtained.
